Teaching under 5's fitness classes in private nurseries and preschools is a massive growth area. Gain a nationally recognised qualification enabling you to be insured and tap into this market. Once you have this qualification look for work with SureStart and many other local community groups who are targeting under 5's with exercise and healthy living initiatives.

§         Course tutors are able to monitor student progress online and give support by telephone or email.

Online learning is the most practical and accessible way to gain further fitness qualification.  You have to be prepared to spend time going through the online Anatomy and Physiology worksheets on the Active IQ website, fill in the candidate achievement record and film a DVD of yourself teaching. The qualification will gain you 20 REPS credits after notifying your insurance company will be able to teach in pre school, nurseries and community groups.

 

Online Course Content

Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology

To be filled in on the Active IQ website. You are asked to read a section and answer a worksheet on what you have read.

 

2. Unit 2 Preparing a physical activity session for under 5's

Complete the Candidate Achievement Record which includes

Session Plan

Accident / Incident Worksheet - (if an accident does not occur then this can be a what if scenario)

 

Film an activity session.  Instruct a 30minute session. Fulfilling the summative assessment checklist (found in the candidate achievement record) Covering all of the criteria in the observation checklist.

 

Candidates are then required to observe or assist with the delivery of a physical activity session for children. Reflecting on their experience during these sessions they then complete the reflective practice worksheet.

 

3. Sit an invidulated multiply choice exam.

The exam paper will be emailed to your appointed invidulated. This can be your line manager, studio coordinator or employer and is to be completed in exam conditions and be signed of by the appointed manager.

1. Is the theory hard?

You are asked to read a passage of text on the website and then are asked questions about this. The theory is all related to under 5's anatomy and physiology.

 

2. Do I need to find a group of children to work with?

Yes as you will need to film yourself teaching a group of under 5's for your DVD assessment and also watch another Instructor teaching a group for the reflection part of your course.

 

3.Where will I find a group?

Contact local Nursery's, play groups, pre school activity groups, infants schools and kindergartens. Contact Sure Start centres in your area.

 

4. Is there a time limit to complete the course?

No you work at your pace

 

4. Will I be assigned an online tutor to help me if I get stuck?

Yes you will be assigned a tutor which will be Rachel Holmes, Kelly Reed or Nicola Swithenbank.

 

5. May place of work would like to pay for me can I invoice you?

Yes please email me with your details. Course details will only be forwarded when full payment is made.

 

6. How many REPs points does this course get?

20 Points and it is a Level 2 course

 

7. Is the course nationally recognised?
