Once registered you will be assigned an online tutor who will guide you through your course work. You will be registered on the Active IQ website where you will fill in your worksheets and proceed with your online learning. To complete the course you will fill in detailed session plans and teach a circuits class that you will film and hand in for your assessment.

Introduction

A vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at Level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. Candidates will broaden their skills as a gym instructor by developing their ability to plan and deliver safe and effective non-music based circuit training sessions.

What will this qualification enable me to do

Teach Circuit training classes in groups.
 

Entry requirements

Candidates must hold a Level 2 qualification in Fitness Instructing (Gym/ETM) or equivalent. Some experience of circuit training is useful but not essential. The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary. There is also a degree of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved, and candidates should have basic skills in communication pitched at Level 2.

Qualification structure

• Unit 1 – Planning a Group Circuit Training Session (Y/102/4315)
• Unit 2 – Instructing a Group Circuit Training Session (D/102/4316).

Assessment

Candidate will need to fill in detailed session plans and perform a Circuit training class whilst being filmed. The DVD will be assessed.

Internally assessed:

• Direct observation of candidate instructing a circuit training session.
• Candidates are also required to evaluate their own performance and write an action plan for improvement.

Why online learning?

Students who select online learning are able to work at their own pace and at a time that suits them all they need is internet access. 

You save travel and childcare costs and work at your speed, at a time that is convenient to you and fits in with your work and family commitments.  Course tutors are able to monitor student progress online and give support by telephone or email.

Online learning is the most practical and accessible way to gain further fitness qualification.  You have to be prepared to spend time going through the online worksheets on the Active IQ website, fill in the candidate achievement record and film a DVD of yourself teaching. The qualification will gain you 20 REPS credits after notifying your insurance company will be able to teach in pre school, nurseries and community groups.

You are asked to read a passage of text on the website and then are asked questions about this. The theory is all related to circuit training.
